Dear Mr Cahill, stop hunting them.
Worcester doesn't support it's unhoused community, it coerces them,
(Email sent to city officials 4:05PM 11/6/24)
Hello Manager Batista and Dan Cahill,
I'm reaching out to you today regarding the city's continued practice of coercing the unhoused community using fear tactics and handwritten eviction notices.
This morning, I talked with Nicole, an extremely sane and sober seeming woman who received a eviction notice from the Quality of Life team, who then later showed up to reiterate that all of her belongings would be moved. You can hear from Nicole yourself here, that she was told by them she would have to "start all over" if she did not comply.
She's eager for the temporary shelter to open up, but as you know that was insufficient for last winter, and will be even less sufficient for this one.
She very clearly stated she didn't want to go to queen street, and I hope you can see the trauma in her face when she stated as much.
Showing up with a police officer and telling them their belongings will be thrown away isn't offering them services, it's threatening them with the circumstances you created.
If we had actual resources, instead of a taskforce designed to displace them, this wouldn't be an issue.
I hope you and Mr Cahill develop some compassion for people who don't make triple digits, and change the way Worcester handles it's unhoused community to one that allows them to get on their feet. Focusing on neighborhood cosmetics, or so-called Quality of Life is disingenuous propaganda, and results in harm, as we saw last weekend with the woman who died alone just outside Dan Cahill's hunting grounds.
