The WPD & PTSD

A culture that discourages self-care and discriminates based on health
“When I became a police officer, I thought I was something of something special.
And it ended up becoming my worst nightmare.”

Fantastic interview with Jerry (Gerald) Condo, a veteran of three overseas tours who was forced out of the Worcester Police department after 14 years of service for issues caused by working for the city. There are now programs specifically for the situations he found himself in, but they won’t take responsibility for their impact on his life or career.

Trigger warning: Discussion of violence, suicide, alcohol abuse

We discuss

  • How “Good cops” are weeded out of the force, or convinced to tolerate bad behavior from their coworkers

  • That the issue is certainly not just WPD, it’s Worcester

  • The role that unions play

  • PTSD symptoms and effects

  • We also touch on the DOJ investigation
